LMQ is proof both that literally _anyone_ can play in LCS and that the LCS will ruin those players careers forever.

Damn, what a trip down memory lane. I played a ton of dominion (~3k games) and this is a pretty comprehensive overview. It's also hitting me seeing all the names I recognize but hadn't thought about in years. When there were only a few hundred active dominion players, you saw a lot of the same players over and over again. The only thing I think missing from this vid was any footage of Zythonn's Singed.

Just because some people think it failed, doesnt mean people didnt enjoy playing it from time to time, they lost alot of casual players by deleting this mode.

I think that there are great female players but I think none are interested in esports or they think they aren’t good enough for it. So we end up with below average players who think they are great going up against great players.

2:20 the fact that there was no meta was great. It meant freedom. It meant actually thinking through what champion to choose, how it fits with your teammates, how am I going to play with it, vs "pick flavor of the month, and pick the core items" Yes, mobility champs "thrived" yet, because you had more freedom in all departments, you could actually shut down said "op" champs. I remember that Kassadin, which everyone feared, was pretty easy to shut him down, as long as you were smart about it. Take the small pots, think where he appeared, see the map, think where is most probably for him to go and go nuke him. Heck, have fun using Alistar to disrupt him and make him fear using "Kassawin" ever again. Riot left the mode to rot, not because there wasn't interest. Let me put it this way, after them mistreating the mode and the users so early in the release cycle, they took this long for the player base to drop to less than 1%. They could have relaunched it after fixing things. But they didn't IMHO because "e-sports". I am a firm believer that it could have surpassed 5vs5 with a bit of love and care. Simply because it was actually fun, with depth gameplay, and far more to the point. Which conflicts with the whole 5vs5 eSports that they were pushing to everyone. Oh well...

I remember when they were in the league, and I remember how poorly so many people still viewed and treated them during this time period. It's really sad, knowing that they could have been fully embraced and performed to full potential. It's what America is supposed to be about but we messed up royally I'd say

It was a different time. Where fans were genuinely excited and invested in the league esports scene instead of being worn down into toxicity by continous let downs and underperformance by the production, both regionally and globally. Large errors could be easily forgiven when a game is still in its ascent.
